In the second half of 2018, after a longer excursion, practical work started again with a new series:
The main outline of this chapter is the dispense of color, and a limit to halftones, as it is
neccessary in most printing types. To mimic the surface of dry mediums -
like charcoal and pencil, - with acrylics, requires a lot of new techniques
and improvisation, but it is also a loop back to the years when drawing was my preferred way of expression.
A Work-process-illustrating Batch of drawing was presented on two public shows of last years Movie "Might of young Engine II".
As it was not indended beforehand to present them as singlestanding works, i did an extensive Rerender of the pencil drawings.
A series of 12 small format Paperworks, which where presented in the successor show of "under der Linden", a show which revolves around a de Lautréamont inspired triangle between Walter von der Vogelweide´s Poem, Isostar and brutalist architecture.
Mainly in the first half of 2018, i worked on The new animated short film “Ikonen” consisting of now already finished five episodes and focuses on television and
cinema advertisements with their semi-fictional advertising icons. In the first clip a brutally disturbing ego shooter game is advertised,
whilst in the next catharsis follows in the form of a detergent with star potential. In their overall sequence the five
clips form a multicoloured tableau that reveals the dulling and strive for optimisation of a consumption-driven society with
humorous and grotesque excess.
At the same time, “Ikonen” is also an homage to the hedonistic advertising age. This series was/is part of the "commercial break" during the screening of both of the "might of young Engines" Movies in the Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig 2018.
